Blog Assignment#2
Junot Diaz's novel the brief and wondrous life of Oscar Wao focus on the demise that Oscar faces as he tries to establish his life as a youth growing up in the ghetto but as his journey unravels its learned that for generations the family has struggled with a curse known as fuku.So although its clear that Oscar's life is affected he becomes determined to outcome all odds in order to get what he so anxiously desires in life.Life was changing and so was the era throughout the years the progression of the curse became worse than the year before.
The affect of the curse changed throughout the years"Which is why it’s important to remember fuku doesn’t always strike like lightning."The generations that were affected were all affected differently which is why no one ever really expected the attack although they had heard of it.The history behind fuku was that of a story that had been traveling for nations but either way everyone was at risk.So what Oscar wanted was to be able to end the curse somehow. But as for Oscar it would be safe to say his life took a twist for various reason but the clearest reason was the breakup between him and Maritza Chacon and Olga Polanco he considered his greatest downfall. He considered the breakup to be his greatest point in the climax. He considered his life to be destroyed for all the minor reasons that eventually took a toll on his lifestyle and weight.
In addition to the lack of love Oscar didn't get any attention from his mom due to her struggle with being drunk all the time.Oscar's struggles all had a root like all problems. But what was different was that despite everything his level of confidence and self esteem was high so he just used that as a way of encouragement although no girl ever really bothered to approach him."He cried often for his love of some girl or another. Cried in the bathroom, where nobody could hear him".It was the small situations that were taking a big toll on him so he relieved his fustration the best way he knew how through crying.
Oscar Wao life was overall was really difficult although it wasn't tragic he struggled with gaining the acceptance of others. He realized his fucked-up comic-book-reading, role-playing-game-loving, no-sports-playing friends were embarrassed by him.People judged him based on his looks without taking time to get to know him for all the good things he had to offer despite his weight struggles.Eventually he decided to use his downfall as stepping stones for greatness as he completeed the rest of his education nothing was going to stop him.
